Who here is an advertising art director???
I'm a graphic designer, and work with advertising...maybe i can help.
All i can tell you is your current major will not get you into an advertising art director position. If you want to go towards the creative end of advertising i suggest getting a bachelors' in Graphic Design at least and then possibly going for either a bachelors' or masters in advertising. You're really going to want the design background first to give you the foundation for well-presented ads. The advertising degree will help you fine-tune and hone your skills to advertising specifically, but you don't necessarily need it....but the more education the better.
A good portfolio is key, along with people skills and organizational skills are also what employers look for.
Reply:I also want to add to the other poster's comment that you should definitely major in Visual Communication or Graphic Design. To be a Creative Director comes with time and experience. A CD is not an entry level job. However, it sounds like you are ambitious which is great! Generally, when you are a graphic designer you work in an advertising department or for an advertising firm that creates....advertisements. ha. So switch majors and you should be on the right path
