What are the advantages and disadvantages of advertising?

Hey everyone. Well, I just came to the 11th grade, and I need some help with a project called 'Advertising - A necessary evil'. Well, I was wondering if someone could give me a detailed answer about what are the advantages and disadvantages of advertising? But please dont make the language too difficult. Thanks.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of advertising?
Advantages:

-gets details about products to consumers

-helps businesses stay ahead of the market

-lets consumers know all their different choices so they realize what is the best option for them

Disadvantages:

-creates competition

-creates problems for smaller businesses that don't have the necessary resources to advertise on larger scales

-can be deceiving to consumers
Reply:Advantages

+Allows you to reach a huge number of people in a given geographic area

+You have the flexibility in deciding the ad size and placement

+Your ad can be as large as necessary to communicate as much of a story as you care to tell

+Exposure to your ad is not limited; readers can go back to your message again and again if so desired.

Disadvantages

-Ad space can be expensive

-Your ad has to compete against the clutter of other advertisers

-You may be paying to send your message to a lot of people who will probably never be in the market to buy from you.

-The wrong advertisment can damage your cause
Reply:Advantages of advertising:

- particularly effective to introduce new product/s

- very efficient communication if a popular medium is used (eg TV or print)

- provide general information on a product / service

- engages the services of a lot of suppliers and as such, it generates employment opportunities for others

Conversely, disadvantages:

- can be very expensive

- if badly executed, may even damage a product or a service's good image

- there is the so-called false advertising so it misleads the public

Hope these short lists help you in your homework.
Reply:u want detailed or easy language? lol

advantages:

it creates customer noeledge of ur product and builds name recognition, when u hear coke, u think soda, not sneakers or music. as u build it, the public remembers ur business as being in a particular field and seeks u out when their need for u arises, like going to home depot to fix a leaky faucet urself, u hear in the ads how u can 'be helped' in them to do it urself.

disadvantages, :

if ur ad is too wild or doesnt hit the targeted demographic, u wasted time and money to sell a product no one knows about or what it does. also bad headlines about ur product, like a faill rate or a recall can damage the company.
Reply:Hey..well i just had a similar question on the AP English exam ...well i could tell u that yes..advertising is a "necessary evil" for ideas that it can compel a person to believe something that is not important or grasp a person senses...such like alchol advertising..cigarette advertisments...u can think about these things...like why don't they adverstise ideas or current events on ways to help raise money for hungry..emaciated children in the Congo...in any part of the world...why advertise the greed? they appeal to a pathos (our emotions) and or senses..its what our greed appeals to us...like certain tabacco products..why dont' they advertise the truths and side affects they cause..like say...a dieing man with emphasima ..or a "green" man dieing from liver failure? these industries are evil indeed in their marketing for their purpose or buisness profit..

good luck and i hope this helps!
