Did you like it? Why did you choose Marketing instead of Advetising, or Advetrising instead of Marketing?
Was the degree useful in finding you a stable job that paid relatively well?
What do you like and not like about Marketing/Advertising?
Did you major in Advertising or Marketing?
I work for an advertising agency in London, and can tell you that having a degree (or the equivalent) in Marketing or Advertising is absolutely not essential. If you're able to show a passion for advertising (through work experience, knowing the advertising marketplace) then that should be more than enough. A lot of people assume that having a qualification in either marketing or advertising will lead them easily to a job in it, whereas in reality, our company employs people with a wide range of skills. We have people with degrees in Chemistry, History, Politics and Accounting, among many others. My best advice would be to major in either, if you love doing them, but also make sure you go out and get the necessary work experience.
Reply:I didnt major in either, but i minored in marketing. Here is a good reason to go with marketing over advertising. Advertising is a part of marketing, so marketing will cover it, my minor covered it pretty in depth so I would only imaging that a major would as well. Marketing is more broad and will give you a more well rounded view of the business world and the product life cycle than just advertising.
Reply:Yes
Reply:No.
I like advertising it it gets it out too the consumer.
Yes it would look at different angles.
I am a very visual person and I like too see what I am buying.
Reply:Advertising is ad placement basically a small part of marketing. Marketing is all aspects of designing full campaigns. That's how I see it.
Reply:No I didn't major in Marketing/Advertising but I do both. I enjoy the fact there is no selling of products involved with either of these things. In Marketing/Advertising, you tell not sell. My business is Marketing/Advertising and I love what I do because I have the opportunity to share info that can really help others. I also use the items I market/advertise. So many celebrities may or may not actually use the items they promote. Find something that you would be proud and passionate to endorse in your Marketing/Advertising. This way, you are doing so with integrity.
I wish you well,
