What to charge for advertising?

I'm producing a play for which anywhere from 100-500 might come and see. I'd like to sell advertising in the program and the size of the ad would be one quarter of your average letter sized piece of paper. What would be an appropriate amount to charge for that space?

What to charge for advertising?
I would put together 4 sizes: full-page, half-page, quarter-page. I would look at your production costs and look at how much it costs to produce the booklet itself, and go from there. If this is an initial sell, you will need to keep costs low and affordable depending on what type of businesses you are going to. I'm guessing they are local.

The other way to do it is to set up sponsorships for the play itself, in which the sponsors would get ad space in the program booklet. This is ususally how many shows and nonprofit/org events work it. See if there are any major sponsors of the production place you are hosting your show and start there, then look to local businesses. For a quarter-page ad I would start small like $50 or $100 dollars, but offer larger sizes for larger amounts. Also, offer discounts for businesses that buy up their ad space and can get you ads by a certain date, which will make them think they're getting the better deal.

Look at newspapers in your area and go to their websites to find out their ad rates, or look at a nonprofit hosting an event and see what they're offering. It can be anywhere from $100-$500 depending, but I wouldn't expect too much for a first outing.
Reply:No one advertises in programs such as you describe because they expect a return on their investment. They normally have an affiliation with the production company, their kid is in the play, they are wealthy and want to look good to the public etc. So, with that said, I would make sure they get their appropriate recognition. I would divide up your pricing and for the top dollar ones, say $500 for a quarter page, I would throw in two great seats. Give them the red carpet treatment and take em backstage to meet your performers. I guarantee you, the experience will please them, and they will be happy to advertise again at your next play. Oh, by the way, make sure the play is good too.
Reply:My guess is u'd charge $450.

My firm is open to the exchange advertising %26amp; sponsorship(online/offline) ideas.
