I would just like to know an approximate amount, iam wondering if it is worth starting up an advertising business, just advertising other websites
Roughly, how much could you make from advertising on the internet?
Advertising where, for what? Are you talking about creating a web site and earning money from advertising that appears on your web site? Or are you talking about buying ads on web sites or search engines? Or perhaps you're thinking about creating your own ad network or brokerage?
I know of very popular, high-traffic web sites with loyal audiences, who struggle to earn 10 cents per 1,000 pageviews. I know of other sites that easily rake in $10 to $30 per 1,000 pageviews. In 1998-1999, I ran a site that generated more than $100 per 1,000 adviews, for much of its traffic.
Of course, in order to sell advertising based on traffic (or clicks, or sales), you must first have traffic, and that's a challenge by itself. Many folks think that if they just post some banners on a page and post it on the internet, the money will start rolling in. But nobody visits pages like that (at least nobody who's going to buy anything).
It's all about context, and audience, and purpose, and message. You've asked an abstract question, and the answer to your abstract question is, "there is no limit to the theoretical amount you might make from advertising on the internet." But at least 90% of people who try to make money through internet advertising FAIL, and the actual figure might be higher than 99%.
