Is there such a thing as negative advertising?

The customer gets turned off or stops buying a product or service because they don't like the advertising or the product is advertised too much.

Is there such a thing as negative advertising?
Yes, there is a thing called negative advertising!!!! I have a very good example of this - In 1970s ford was shown in every magazine in US and of course every news paper around and their sales were around 70% less than last year! This was because of advertising too much!
Reply:yes.

or the advertising repositions the product to appeal to a group of people that the customer doesn't want to think s/he is a part of.

Example: liquid vitamins with minerals.

you could probably sell this product to health conscious women and mothers of children.

Unless the product is named "Geritol" -- Geritol is for old folks and working age women do NOT want to be think themselves old.

you can also reposition your competition via negative advertising. The famous example is Tylenol -- no stomach upset. It successfully repositioned aspirin as an undesirable product.
Reply:I have sometimes become fed up by certain adverts on radio or TV. If they are repeated 'endlessly' Also sometimes I think I feel there is too much 'spin' in some cases (ads for skin cremes are a classic). You can't beat petroluem jelly.

Also you can do negative advertising in another way by implying something else is worse than yours.

Such as 'Our soap powder doesn't leave suds on your clothes'
