What are the different appeals used in advertising?

Are the sex appeal, fear appeal some of the types of advertising appeal? If so, what are their details and what are the other types of advertising appeals?

What are the different appeals used in advertising?
There are a million atributes used to appeal to consumers. They range from pride and patiotism to love and lust.It really depends upon the type of product you have and how you want to position it in the consumer's mind.
Reply:I think that broadly the appeals used in advertising can be classified into two. That would be RATIONAL appeal and EMOTIONAL appeal. An emotional appeal would be something that appeals to your emotions - of fear, trust, love, liking, pride etc. On the other hand, rational appeal would be something that appeals to your logical and objective side. Consumer advertising largely uses emotional appeal. Business to Business advertising almost always uses the rational approach. I believe that there is also another appeal that is best not classified with the other two. That is SENSORY appeal where the advertising appeals to your senses and may actually trigger changes in your hormone levels etc. For eg. sexual imagery in advertising, gastronomically appealing images etc. There's a lot more that can be said on this. For which you're free to ask me.
Reply:wel m not an advertising guy..jus am mba student.here is my opinion sourced frm xperience n common sense....a catchy punch line works d best...then a touch of light emotions work good in some countries (like India), a logical tempting offer can alone bring about sucess..wat say!
